The meaning behind 'Waterfalls' by TLC is pretty dark

'Waterfalls' by TLC is a straight BANGER.

It's a classic sing along, and gets everyone hitting the d-floor. 

But while it may up your spirits when you listen to it, the song actually has a serious meaning behind it.

According to Bustle, the song we love to belt out to is about H.I.V., drug dealing, and other tragedies that kill predominantly young people.

One of the members of TLC, Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, said that that it was important for the group to "get the message across without seeming like preaching."

The line "three letters took him to his final resting place" is referring to dying of AIDS. TLC were big on AIDS awareness - Left Eye would often wear condoms attached to her clothes and in her glasses to promote safe sex.
