We're not gonna lie, we've always scoffed back McDonald's chicken nuggets to notice they have four different shapes. But they do, and there's a specific reason why.

The four shapes are: the bell, the ball, the boot and the bone.

Why are they shaped this way, you ask? For the kids.

"Our Chicken McNuggets are shaped uniquely for kids and kids at heart - it makes dipping more fun," the company wrote on its Q&A page. "The four shapes we make Chicken McNuggets in was the perfect equilibrium of dipability and fun.

"Three would've been too few, five would've been wacky. We also make them similar in size to ensure consistent cooking times for food safety."

Okay, we wouldn't say they're exactly "fun" shapes, but hey at least they're tasty.
