Our very own Prime Minister has just welcomed her first child!

The baby girl arrived at 4:45 PM this afternoon weighing 3.31kgs, at Auckland Hospital.

The arrival of the baby was announced via Instagram.

"I'm sure we're going through all of the emotions new parents go through, but at the same time feeling so grateful for all the kindness and best wishes from so many people. Thank you," Jacinda Ardern said.

Although Jacinda has been working right up to and after the due date, the PM will be taking 6 weeks maternity leave to spend time with the newborn and her partner/baby-daddy Clarke Gayford.

Ardern has made history as the first Kiwi PM to give birth while in power and just the second world leader.

Congratulations to the new parents!
