Lea Tupu'anga/Mother Tongue is off to one of the biggest stages in film!

Bought to life by Tongan/Kiwi's Vea Mafile'o (For My Father's Kingdom) and Luciane Buchanan (NetFlix's The Night Agent), the short will make its premiere at the 2024 Sun Dance Film Festival. One of the most esteemed platforms for established and future filmmakers.

Written by one of Aotearoa's youngest shining stars in Hollywood - Auckland born Lucianne, the story is about a young speech therapist that has lied about her Tongan language skills to work with an elderly Tongan patient with aphasia - who has lost his ability to speak English.
