Former Shortland Street star KJ Apa, who's about to light up Hollywood, has found himself on the ruff side of the media. The film A Dogs Purpose which Apa stars in, has come under fire from the PETA, media and fans as disturbing footage of the production crew mishandling a dog during filming.

Footage showing a dog being abused on a movie set has angered many - including an actor and the director of the film. Someone off-camera says, "You've just got to throw him in" and the dog is eventually put into the pool but quickly becomes submerged. The footage ends as staff rush to rescue the animal.
