These pop culture icons are celebrating big anniversaries in 2017

If you don't feel old yet, then maybe this might help you. Looking back at 2016, there were certainly some big casualties, but looking at 2017 there are some big pop culture icons celebrating some big birthdays. Here's a look at some of the reasons to celebrate in 2017.

HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHERS STONE

Just to make you feel really old, it is now 20 years since Harry Potter first became a part of the world, and the first book becoming an almost instantaneous success.

RHIANNA - UMBRELLA

 

Rihanna had been a rising star for a few years before Umbrella came out 2007, but when her collab with Jay-Z was released, the star exploded onto the world stage.

POKEMON - THE INDIGO LEAGUE

April 1, 1997, marks 20 years since Japan, and the world, met Ash and Pikachu. There are now nearly 950 episodes of the anime, which shows no sign of stopping any time soon.

STAR WARS A NEW HOPE

The 40th anniversary of the original movie will be met with sadness this year, afterthe death of stars Carrie Fisher and Kenny Baker last year.

SOULJA BOY

Soulja Boy became an instant star after Crank That went to No.1 for seven weeks in the US in 2007. Ten years on, his dancing may live on, but it seems his career does not.

MEN IN BLACK

Some would argue that this was the movie that elevated Will Smiths career to new heights. Whether it did or didn't this movie is an absolute banger that will go down as sci-fi/comedy classic.

The Iphone revolutionised the mobile phone game forever. It was the start of a chain of devices that would change how the would connect with each other and it has now become one of the most powerful mobile device chains ever!
