Back in 1989 the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences decided to recognise Hip Hop deserves its own awards. This time last year at the 31st Grammy Awards the first ever award for best Rap performance was given to The Fresh Prince & DJ Jazzy Jeff for their single "Parents Just Don't Understand."
