This has got to be one of the most annoying things to happen to everyone in life. You grab a nice packet of chips sit down for a munch, only to find that you've got the smallest portion of chips. 

Well it turns out there is a logical reason behind this annoyance. What it's called is 'slack fill' which is needed for when the packets are crammed into boxes and tight spaces, which are tossed around through the delivery process, so this ensures your beloved chips aren't crushed. 

And it's not actually oxygen filled into chip packets it's nitrogen because the oxygen makes chips soggy! So in future thank that their is air filled in your packets otherwise you will be left with some seriously smushed chips.
