Te Matatini has wrapped up in Te Whanganui-a-Tara after Kapa Haka group Ngā Tūmanako took out the overall spot for National champion Roopu.

After all 46 groups had performed for the first time, the 9 finalists were announced who then had another shot to impress the judges.

The 9 finalists were:

  • Te Mātārae I Ōrehu
  • Mōtai Tangata Rau
  • Te Kapa Haka o Te Whānau a Apanui
  • Ngā Tūmanako
  • Tūhourangi Ngāti Wāhiao
  • Te Pou o Mangatāwhiri
  • Whāngārā Mai Tawhiti
  • Te Iti Kahurangi
  • Piki Kōtuku

Crowds at Wellington's Westpac Stadium were shocked when previous champion group, Tamaki Makaurau's Te Waka Huia didn't make the finals.
