Boyz n the Hood director John Singleton dies at age 51

John Singleton, the first African American nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director has died, aged 51.

John’s career in Hollywood spanned almost 3 decades and included the huge success of the 1991 film Boyz n the Hood.

John’s mother reported that he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends.

Snoop Dogg posted to his Instagram to pay tribute to Singleton, thanking him for everything he gave to the big screen.

It was just under 2 weeks ago that John had suffered a stroke after returning from Costa Rica.
