A music festival in Barcelona has been evacuated after a fire broke out on stage just hours before the headline act was scheduled to play.

According to The Sun, 22,000 people were forced to evacuate Tomorrowland Unite Spain festival in Barcelona after a fire broke out on the left side of the main stage.

Footage shared on social media shows initial smoke appearing from the structure before flames break out in front of festival goers.

US electronica musician Steve Aoki was due to perform on the stage before the fire ended the festivities.

No injuries have been reported, but firefighters reportedly fear the stage's structure could collapse.

Local media is reporting that festival organisers are planning to refund the evacuated concert-goers.
