A Christchurch/Ōtautahi native, Marley Sola’s life has been filled with music. Coming from a family of Samoan, Maori and European descent, his first memories of music were watching his uncle play saxophone in the classic New Zealand group Salmonella Dub. As a youngster he would go backstage and watch the band from the wings. It was from these early experiences that Marley would begin to chase his passion for music.

As a teenager Marley became a regular performer with his local church and was often found jamming out with his mates at weddings. Marley’s first taste of the wider music industry came when, at age 17, he featured as one quarter of Moorhouse, a group who were fan favourites in the first season of The X-Factor NZ.

Following the group’s eventual split Marley began working on solo material with the multi-talented singer, producer and performer Vince Harder. It was through Vince’s label HMG that Marley would release his first EP ‘Believe’ (2016) and the singles ‘Call My Name’ (2017) and ‘I Feel It’ (2018). Marley has also been consistently working throughout with acclaimed vocal coach Nathan Philips. Nathan has performed with and alongside many local and international artists, including One Republic, Ginny Blackmore, Guy Sebastian and Stan Walker.

At age 22 Marley is beginning on a new path in his career. As an experienced and now independent artist, Marley plans to up the ante with a series of singles and an EP over the coming year. The singles reflect an artist coming into his own and finding his unique voice, drawing upon influences such as Lauren Hill, Chance The Rapper, Frank Ocean and Daniel Caesar.

Outside of his own music, Marley has been vocal coaching, and teaching production and writing to a variety of students with Nathan Philips. He has been using his skills and experiences to help guide other artists in their navigation through the often complex music industry.

A powerful live performer, Marley has performed at Parachute Festival and supported the likes of Aaradnha, Sons of Zion, Hollie Smith, Maisey Rika and Seth Haapu.
