New Zealand’s Polynesian poet, MELODOWNZ has returned with a mighty new Denzel Curry collaboration, ‘No Mercy’. The new single arrives after a pivotal 2019 that saw the Kiwi MC in LA recording with Curry, opening up for Dreamville giants Bas and Lute and picking up the award for “Most Promising Artist” at the Pacific Music Awards.

While he’s a peacemaker at his core, ‘No Mercy’ is a ferocious fireball showcasing a new side of MELODOWNZ’ Gemini complex. Employing a cutthroat flow, Melo tells a tale of tribulations on ‘No Mercy’, depicting the harsh realities he’s been dealt that’ve fuelled his endurance - amongst money, violence, the prison system, labels, haters and more.

“To be honest when I wrote this song I was going through some dark shit in my life.

It was just me venting about things I was going through and needed to get off my chest, hence the aggression of the song. I wanna communicate to people that its okay to feel shit and go through negative phases, So when I say “No Mercy”, to me thats being resilient, not giving up, not giving a fuck and just showing up and going hard no matter what the situation.” MELODOWNZ says of the single.

Known for his punk-rap hybrid, Florida native Denzel Curry also adopts a ruthless demeanour on his lethal verse. A super saiyan in the rap stratosphere, Denzel Curry has risen from the early emergence of Soundcloud to become one of the giants in hip hop today. Shapeshifting with every project he shares, the south Florida rapper has released four mixtapes, two EP’s and four studio albums spanning his celebrated career, including his critically acclaimed 2018 record TA13OO and this year’s album ZUU.

“Working with Denzel was a trip, I’ve been a fan of him for a minute, so chopping it

up in the studio was crazy. He brings a very unique and special energy to the room. It was an honour being able to witness that, and talk shit for a couple hours. He’s a real one. ‘No Mercy’ is the beginning of a new chapter for me in terms of music, art and expression.”

‘No Mercy’ was recorded in Los Angeles, with pounding production courtesy of award-winning producer, Smoke. The Onehunga bred production wizards countless credits span across the discographies of renowned rappers, including Hit-Boy, Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar and many more.

In 2019 MELODOWNZ has been the recipient of prestigious kiwi honours, among the Pacific Music Awards prize for “Most Promising Artist”, following his infamous performance on Berlin’s COLORS.

In 2017 he shared his debut project, hometown chronicle Avontale$, and in 2018 released double sided EP Melo & Blues. After conquering his hometown and becoming a homegrown hero since breaking out onto the scene in 2016, MELODOWNZ is ready to connect with the melting pot that is international hip hop. Having already collaborated with UK MC Coops on Melo’s 2018 Smoke & Blues track ‘Infinite’, ‘No Mercy’ featuring Denzel Curry marks the next chapter of MELODOWNZ never ending narrative.
