Alicia Keys is one of the most iconic and powerful female artists at the moment, and her amazing performance at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia was a surprise for everyone as Hillary Clinton bought her up on stage to perform two of her most powerful anthems "Superwoman and "Girl on Fire."

She took to the stage barefooted, with not a dab of concealer, or swipe of mascara she was completely makeup free, with her natural curls and you can just see her beauty resonate with her raw and emotional performance.

But why? Well Alicia Keys wrote an article for Marie Claire and had a lot to say about why she's choosing the makeup free life:

"Every time I left the house, I would be worried if I didn't put on makeup: What if someone wanted a picture?? What if they POSTED it??? These were the insecure, superficial, but honest thoughts I was thinking. And all of it, one way or another, was based too much on what other people thought of me."

Keys went on to say, "I PROMISED I WOULD APPROACH THINGS DIFFERENTLY THIS TIME REGARDING MY IMAGE AND ALLOW MY REAL SELF, AS IS, TO COME THROUGH... 'Cause I don't want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing."
