Former Shortland Street star Frankie Adams is appearing in her first Hollywood role as The Expanse's Bobbie Draper.

The Kiwi star moved to Los Angeles a little under a year ago to further her acting career, and landed a gig on the Syfy channel's space drama. Heading into its second season, The Expanse already has a huge following, and has drawn comparisons massively popular shows such as Game of Thrones and Battlestar Galactica

The Expanse is based on the best-selling book series of the same name by Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham, who say Adams is the perfect fit to play action-girl Bobbie, who is 2 metres tall and of Polynesian descent.

"She's six feet tall, she's athletic, she can act, and she's Samoan," they told Blastr.com.

"Bobbie is very physical so we wanted an actress who was very comfortable with being physical. An actress who never appeared to be intimidated in any situation but who could occupy as much space as any of the other cast and could be intimidating to them."

They're expecting her to be an instant hit with the show's fans, who are already sharing the first images of Adams with excitement.
