Tricked out of her money, a would-be pot buyer went to the police.

But her complaint against a so-called drug dealer for not delivering the goods could land the Waikato woman in hot water, according to Fairfax.

Betty Tamihana claims she paid $40 for an ounce of marijuana but the alleged dealer she found on Facebook never returned with the dope.

When Tamihana complained to the police she discovered she could also be prosecuted for trying to buy the illegal drug.

Tamihana told Fairfax she smoked cannabis to medicate anxiety and that she approached a man she bought from previously, to buy more cannabis.

"I was looking for some weed and I posted to see if anybody did drop offs and he popped up and he said that he could," she said.

"I gave him $40 and he didn't come back. I rang and I messaged him and he turned everything off. I couldn't get a hold of him."

The woman said she thought she would be exempt from charges because the purchase never went through.
